After you have reached level 5, get ready to take over a gym. If you happen to come across a grey gym with no other colors, this means it is essentially an undiscovered gym that no one has taken up at. If this is the case, you can place any of your Pokemon here, which won’t be returned to your team until they’re defeated by another.

Something like you can only drop a Pokemon at the same Gym maximum 3 times within an hour. That would probably fix it, if to curb the XP exploit. I’ve heard stories of people living near gyms on university who would always take the gym back once someone challenges it.
A week is only long for a big town/city. When I visited my parents (2000 people village) it stayed a week too in summer and the gym is placed pretty much in the center right at the main road. I think if you find gyms away from a city and the road than you make it gold.
I suppose they could patch in the ability to manually remove your Pokemon from a Gym, but knowing them, they’ll probably revoke the coin reward if you do so, so that way people can’t farm 50 coins a day by removing their Pokemon once a day and then adding it back. butts210 (Topic Creator) 4 years ago #6.
