Make a backup of your game files before you mod so that you can go back to vanilla GTA if you don’t want to use mods anymore. DO NOT try to load online if you’ve altered the files in anyway, you’ll get insta-banned. You can’t get banned for modding SP, you’ll get banned for modding SP and trying to load MP.
You will get banned when you launch online mode, while there are still modified files or additional files in your GTA V installation folder. Either you thouroughly clear out the folder and reinstate the last clean version, or you have a duplicate folder. But even then you need to be careful not to launch multiplayer from the wrong folder.
You can either run two separate copies of the game and NEVER go online with the ‘story mode modded’ version or play your one copy in story mode and when you’re done modding, erase the game directory and re-install new for playing online. Well… You need to make sure GTA 5 doesn’t find the mods you have, and the easiest is to have 2 game copies. An alternative- is to know which files are mod files and move them away from your GTA 5 directory when you want to play. There’s also a possibility that someone has made a mod manager of sorts that can do this for you.
As long as you have a mods folder where you have placed all your mods that actually modify the game files, you can just remove your ASI loader and OpenIV.ASI (to easily do this just open up OpenIV, go to GTA V, click the ASI manager on the top row, and click uninstall next to the ASI loader and OpenIV.ASI.)
There is no certain way to avoid bans, when you enable a mod menu online you volunteer to break the ToS and you are at risk getting swinged by the ban hammer, it is just how it is, because if people report you, you can and will get banned with enough reports even if you’re innocent and have never modded ever. 1.
